The latest insights and developments in criminal justice

Good day, my friends! Welcome to another episode of America’s Criminologist. I’m Dr. Currie Myers, bringing you the latest insights and developments in criminal justice from across the United States.

My Podcast is brought to you by the Howard Wagyu Ranch. Raised on a family ranch in Central Kansas, Howard Wagyu serves Wagyu beef with the highest quality and excellence. Just go to their website Howard Wagyu! Now featuring Wagyu Tallow Lotion!

I’m thrilled to announce that my new book, The Advent of Feral Man, is now available exclusively on my Substack at drcurriemyers.substack.com for paid subscribers. In this work, I explore compelling evidence that over the past decade, America has been accelerating toward a disturbing trend—the “wilding” of the human spirit. This unraveling is deeply rooted in the erosion of faith, the breakdown of the family, and the absence of moral formation in our culture. If you're a subscriber, you’ll gain access to this book along with all my previously published work. I truly hope you find it as thought-provoking to read as it was fulfilling to write.

Don’t forget, you can also listen to this podcast on Spotify—just search America’s Criminologist with Dr. Currie Myers. And stay connected with me on X @DrCurrieMyers—an essential platform where I share commentary, research, and updates.

If you’re looking for more, I’m hosting two additional podcasts you might enjoy. The first is The St. Michaels Group Podcast at stmichaelsgroup.substack.com, where we focus on restoring the pillars of faith, family, and moral formation. The second is a gripping exploration of criminal psychology called Wired to Kill, available at wiredtokill.substack.com. This one dives into real criminal cases, laced with my professional insights into what may have been going on in the mind of the killer. All three podcasts are available on Spotify, so be sure to subscribe and stay informed.

This week on The Lou Desmond & Company Show I was the guest host for Lou. My guest was Chief Scott Hughes of the Hamilton Township Ohio Police Department. With a career that began in 1997, Chief Hughes has led from every seat in the patrol car and command table. He’s not just a department head—he’s a change agent.

This week I also joined the Terry Lowry Show in the greater Houston area to discuss the LA Riots and crime associated with this lawlessness. What makes a protest peaceful? When does a protest become a riot? In this interview, I explain the difference and why we have many laws regarding what is and what is not permitted during a protest. 🚨 NEW POLICY PAPER ALERT 🚨
As one of the first major county sheriffs to support the First Step Act, I believed in a smarter, safer approach to federal justice reform. That belief still holds—but with firm boundaries.

✅ The Act is working—reducing recidivism and giving non-violent offenders a real path to redemption.
❌ But let’s be clear: Career criminals, gang members, sex offenders, terrorists, and repeat violent offenders have no business qualifying for early release.

That’s why I’m calling for a “Red Zone Carve-Out Clause”—to protect our communities and uphold deterrence. And it’s time to reintroduce a strong, tech-enabled federal parole system to enforce accountability after release. Law enforcement wants reform—but not at the expense of public safety. We can have both. And this paper lays out how. 📄 Read the full perspective here:

Here is my Riff for the week:

For 2024, the total line of duty deaths in law enforcement was 145 officers. So far in 2025 there have been 33 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. In June we have had five officer deaths as of this date. St Michael Pray for them, their families, and us!

I spent 24 years out on the streets of America fighting crime. One of the most important tools in my toolkit was appropriate illumination! Okay here is Dr C’s top five blitz on CJ News and Information for this week:

Portland Protest Turns Federal

What Happened:
Federal agents had to break out the rubber bullets, flashbangs, and tear gas (again) to clear radical protesters blocking access to an ICE facility in Portland—because nothing says "peaceful protest" like assaulting a federal compound for 10 straight days.

Dr. C’s Take:
Where were the local police? Probably stuck in a diversity training seminar or parked two blocks away waiting for political permission to act. Let’s be clear: this isn’t free speech—it’s felony obstruction. ICE is enforcing the law. Portland is enabling the mob. And when federal buildings need to be defended like war zones, we’ve got a bigger problem than immigration. At this point, the only thing missing is a popcorn stand and a Netflix docuseries: “Sanctuary City: Season 5.”

Southern Border Hits Record Low—Yes, You Read That Right

What Happened:
Border Czar Tom Homan reported that the Border Patrol encountered just 95 illegal aliens in the past 24 hours across the entire southern border. That’s the lowest number ever recorded. For contrast: under Biden, we were clocking over 10,000 per day.

Dr. C’s Take:
Ninety-five! That’s not a sector—that’s a slow Tuesday at a county jail. This is what happens when a Nation gets serious with boots on the ground, razor wire on the border, and political leadership that values deterrence over delusion. This isn’t magic—it’s focused enforcement with consequences. Under Biden? It was less “border security” and more “border hospitality.” The only thing missing back then was a welcome bag and a hotel voucher.

Playing in Traffic Isn’t a Protest Strategy—It’s a Suicide Pact

What Happened:
Another viral video shows a screeching activist in high-pitched panic after getting bumped by a car during a so-called “protest.” Translation: a mob surrounded a vehicle, pounded on it, and then acted shocked when the driver didn’t want to be carjacked by committee.

Dr. C’s Take:
Let’s get this straight—when you throw yourself in front of a moving vehicle and start banging on it like you're auditioning for Mad Max, don’t cry victim when the driver hits the gas to escape. Law enforcement’s job is to clear the road, not referee social tantrums in the middle of traffic lanes. If police don’t enforce the law, citizens will defend themselves—and that’s where the real danger lies. It’s not vigilantism—it’s survival when a mob surrounds your car with bad intentions. This isn’t activism. It’s anarchy. And no one has the “right” to terrorize commuters to make a political point. To the radical left: If your protest strategy looks like a scene from Frogger, don’t be surprised when you get flattened by the reality truck.

Coast Guard Veteran Charged in Trump Threat—Fueled by Comey’s Cryptic Post?

What Happened:
Peter Stinson, a retired U.S. Coast Guard sharpshooter and FEMA instructor, has been charged with making direct threats against President Donald Trump. One chilling phrase used: “86 47”—slang for eliminating the 47th president. That same phrase just happened to appear in a now-deleted Instagram post by former FBI Director James Comey. Coincidence? FBI Director Kash Patel doesn’t think so.

Dr. C’s Take:
This isn’t just a random vet with a grudge—this is a trained federal operator making coded threats against a U.S. president. And the fact that the phrase came from Comey’s Instagram? That’s not just reckless—that’s radioactive. This case highlights two truths: Words have consequences, especially when they come from elite power players. And radicalization doesn’t just happen in basements—it’s now wearing stars and bars. There’s a reason we teach command presence and discretion in law enforcement. Maybe it’s time our former federal leaders took a refresher course—before someone gets killed.

The Left’s Flag-Waving Phase—Patriotism or Just Performance?

What Happened:
At the recent “No Kings Day of Defiance” protest in North Texas, leftist demonstrators—typically hostile to American symbolism—showed up waving tiny U.S. flags. Organizers encouraged participants to “reclaim” the flag and show the world that their version of “freedom” is inclusive. This was, of course, while standing in front of signs drenched in profanity and anti-American messaging.

Dr. C’s Take:
My friend Scott Hogenson nailed it in his recent Townhall piece: “Democrats have a problem with flags.” That’s not just a headline—it’s a diagnosis. Read his excellent column here: 👉 Patriotic Cosplaying at No Kings Protests – Townhall. Great job, Scott—bullseye. Now back to the cosplay: You don’t get to torch the flag all year and suddenly rediscover it for a protest photo-op. That's not patriotism—it's political pageantry. Real freedom means respecting the flag every day, not just when it fits your message du jour. To paraphrase Orwell: “Some animals wave the flag more equally than others.” If the left wants to reclaim the flag, maybe they should start by saluting the values behind it—not staging TikToks in front of the Constitution they ignore the rest of the year.

Governor Hochul Hands Illegal Immigrants $50 Million in Legal Aid—On Your Dime

What Happened:
In yet another tone-deaf move, Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York will spend $50 million in taxpayer money to cover legal fees for illegal immigrants. Why? Because, in her words, they’re “being taken from their families” and “don’t have the lawyers.” Yes, she’s using your tax dollars to fund legal defense for people who violated federal immigration law.

Dr. C’s Take:
Let’s be real: this is state-sponsored obstruction of federal law—plain and simple. It’s not compassion. It’s complicity. Hochul isn’t offering legal aid—she’s offering sanctuary state subversion at a discount price. And you, the taxpayer, are footing the bill. Imagine being a law-abiding citizen in New York who can’t afford a lawyer, but watching illegal border crossers get their day in court courtesy of Albany. That’s not just unjust—it’s criminally insulting. This isn't immigration policy—it's political payoff. Hochul’s playing border blackjack with public safety, and every New Yorker just got dealt the losing hand. Reminder: under federal statute (8 U.S.C. § 1324), aiding and abetting illegal immigration is a crime. Maybe it's time someone asked whether New York’s Governor is more interested in enforcing the law or undermining it for political theater. You can’t yell “no one is above the law” out of one side of your mouth and then write checks to help people break it out of the other.

🕵️ “I’m Proud of You”—A Burglar’s Odd Compliment

What happened: In Lincolnshire, England, burglar Dwayne Pillin hid in a ditch, but eventually discovered by Shadow, the departments canine. When officers arrested him, he said, “I’m proud of you,” adding, “I enjoyed the chase.”

Dr. C’s Take:
When your arrestee compliments your dog’s tracking skills... that’s next-level respect. Maybe we should install weekly morale awards: “And the Officer’s Badge goes to…you, Shadow.” Good boy!
