It’s 2025, and the chaos keeps writing itself. From LA to NYC, we’re witnessing protests that often morph into riots, fueled by rage, ideology, and a complete disregard for law and order. But this isn’t just a ‘protest problem’—we’re watching the rise of a new criminal archetype—unformed, untethered, and unchecked. These aren’t just criminals; they’re feral actors raised on grievance and enabled by soft policy. The erosion of deterrence has met the abdication of leadership. And it’s the American law enforcement officer left holding the line—undermanned, overworked, and too often thrown under the bus. Which brings me to tonight’s guest—someone who understands all of this and more, and isn’t afraid to lead from the front.

🎖️Guest: Chief Scott Hughes

Tonight, I have the privilege of welcoming one of law enforcement’s most respected thought leaders—Chief Scott Hughes of the Hamilton Township Ohio Police Department. With a career that began in 1997, Chief Hughes has led from every seat in the patrol car and command table. He’s not just a department head—he’s a change agent.

Over two decades, Chief Hughes has served in multiple leadership roles, transforming police departments through a disciplined focus on personnel development, accountability, and culture. He’s a two-decade instructor with the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Commission, and a respected contributor and trainer for Calibre Press, where he delivers standout courses like “Legally Justified, But Was It Avoidable?”

A graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 291) and holder of the Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) designation, Chief Hughes brings academic rigor with his Bachelor’s in Organizational Leadership, a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from UVA, and elite standing as a member of the Association of Force Investigators.

He chairs the Professional Services Committee for the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and serves on their Education Committee. Beyond that, he advises on leadership, police culture, and legal use of force through Fireproofed Leadership—and in 2025, founded Crosden Consulting, which offers expert witness services in public safety.

Currently, he’s the Chief of Police in one of Ohio’s fastest-growing suburbs—proving every day that principled leadership is still alive in American policing.

Chief Hughes, welcome to the show.
