America's Criminologist Podcast for November 22, 2024

Dr C opines on criminal justice news, public policy, and recent published works.

Welcome to the America’s Criminologist Podcast for November 22, 2024. This is Dr Currie Myers with some interesting criminal justice news and events that have occurred in the United States recently.

My Podcast is brought to you by the Howard Wagyu Ranch. Raised on a family ranch in Central Kansas, Howard Wagyu serves Wagyu beef with the highest quality and excellence. Just go to their Facebook Page and go to Howard Wagyu!

My new book, “The Advent of Feral Man” is now available on Substack drcurriemyers.substack.com for all paid subscribers. In this book, I present compelling evidence that within the last decade, America is going into a quick decent into the “wilding” of human beings. A phenomenon that is perpetuated by the lack of faith, family, and formation in our human development. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Last Friday afternoon, 12/15/24, I was on the nationally syndicated The Lars Larson Show | Listen | AlphaMediaPlayer.com at the 1hr/27m mark, discussing some of the opportunities that can be done as soon as he is sworn into the Presidency. Hit the link above to see the interview! The federal government has several tools and programs to assist local and state law enforcement agencies. Here are some keyways they can help.

Yesterday, I was on the Mundo in the Morning Show. In this show I provided an analysis of South American organized burglary groups operating internationally, focusing on operational methods, group structures, and property disposition networks. Kansas City Chiefs players, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were recent victims of these types of organized burglary rings according to law enforcement authorities. Here are my pressing issues this week that I have offered an opinion on as an applied criminologist, ethicist and career law enforcement officer at the local, state, and federal level:

flag of USA on grass field

In recent years, the United States has experienced a dramatic acceleration of social change. Fueled by technological innovation, social media, and progressive movements, these changes have led to significant shifts in cultural norms. While many of these movements stemmed from genuine concerns and aspirations for progress, they have also triggered what sociologists’ term "cultural backlash." The presidency and broader political philosophy of Donald J. Trump have become emblematic of this backlash, providing a voice to millions of Americans who feel that the country’s identity, values, and traditions have been overshadowed by rapid, and often polarizing, social transformations. Okay here is my five-minute blitz on CJ News and Information for this week:

According to RedState, Score another victory for gun rights! The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled against a legal challenge against the state’s firearm preemption laws that prohibit local governments from further infringing on the right to keep and bear arms. Currently, Pennsylvania’s preemption laws prohibit local governments from passing gun control measures that go further than firearms restrictions passed at the state level. The ruling means that there will be uniformity when it comes to gun control laws, which means it is less likely that an individual might find themselves in legal jeopardy due to confusion about local restrictions on firearms. The ruling comes after an appeals court dismissed the original challenge against the law. “The General Assembly’s authority over municipalities is supreme…municipalities may do only those things which the legislature has expressly or by necessary implication permitted,” Justice Kevin Brobson wrote in his opinion. The court argued that the state constitution “does not provide that the right to bear arms shall not be questioned in some parts of the Commonwealth but abridged at will in others” and that “Regulation of firearms is a matter of statewide concern.”

According to Fox News, the Marine veteran on trial for the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely called an expert forensic pathologist to the witness stand Thursday, and he came to a dramatically different conclusion than the New York City Medical Examiner's Office. "The chokehold did not cause the death," Dr. Satish Chundru testified. Daniel Penny, 26, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the top charge he faces, manslaughter, for the death of 30-year-old Neely. Chundru, a former Miami-area medical examiner who now runs a private practice in Texas conducting autopsies in a half-dozen counties, said that he did not believe an air choke caused Neely's unconsciousness and, therefore, did not cause his death. Chundru said he found the cause of death to be "the combined effects of sickle cell crisis, the schizophrenia, the struggle and restraint, and the synthetic marijuana." Someone schizophrenic, high on K2 and involved in a struggle can die without a chokehold being involved at all, he said. Similarly, he said, if there were no health issues and the chokehold was the only factor, Neely would not have died.

According to TownHall, Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s border czar, said Wednesday the incoming administration will “absolutely” use the land Texas offered for its mass deportation operation. “We absolutely will. When we find somebody, a targeted enforcement operation, when they get arrested, they’ll be detained,” Homan said on “The Ingraham Angle.” The comment comes after Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham offered the incoming Trump administration more than 1,400 acres in the Rio Grande Valley to “allow a facility to be built for the processing, detention, and coordination of the largest deportation of violent criminals in the nation’s history.” “They have to be detained for a short time while we get travel documents from their host country,” Homan added. “[The] host country has to agree that, ‘yeah, they’re our national’ – we get travel documents. We get flight arrangements, flight agreements. So, we’re going to detain them for a little while.”  Trump’s border czar then explained how they’ll handle uncooperative states.  “Sanctuary states [that] said they’re not gonna allow any detention facilities in their state—fine, then we’ll arrest them, we’ll fly them out of the state and detain them outside of the state, away from their families, their attorneys. Is that what you want? That’s what you get. You’re not going to stop us from doing what we have to do.”

According to the PopulistState, Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt has drawn an ambitious plan to kickstart President Donald Trump’s mass deportation of illegal immigrants in his state. Gov. Stitt directed Oklahoma’s commissioner of public safety to hatch a plan to start the deportation of illegal immigrants in state prisons by January 2025 when Trump takes over. Stitt lamented that under the Biden administration, the ICE could not deport illegal immigrants the state turned over. “We’re preparing for Operation Guardian in Oklahoma— the deportation of illegal aliens, starting with those already sitting in our jails,” Stitt X’ed. Stitt defended the plan to rid correctional facilities of illegal immigrants, saying it was a commonsense move that would restore “the rule of law” in Oklahoma. The governor noted that some illegal immigrants, who broke the law when they entered the country illegally, were also involved in other crimes, such as pushing fentanyl, rape, and burglary. Research shows that illegal immigrants have higher crime rates than legal migrants.

According to PopulistState, Mayor Eric Adams of NYC said the city will add two police academy classes, which will expand the police force by 1,600 officers by October 2025, putting the total number to nearly 34,000. The Big Apple targets employing 35,000 officers to address residents’ security concerns. The money was originally intended to house illegal migrants located in the Big Apple. Another example of how a Trump pending presidency changes political will in some areas!
